The New Zealand Government made significant and controversial changes to the pay equity framework this month. Changes to the Equal Pay Act were introduced on 6 May 2025 and passed under urgency. This means there was no opportunity for public submissions or consultation with affected parties.
As members of Atamira Platform, we therefore wholeheartedly tautoko their Press Release urging our Government to reconsider their decision to abolish pay equity claims.
In 2023, Equip provided 36,861 hours of support to tāngata whai ora and their whānau. More hours are desperately needed, but we also need to look after our kaimahi – the very people who do this important work.
