If you’ve lost a loved one to suicide or suspected suicide, please know you don’t have to go through this alone.
The Waves programme is made up of eight group sessions, each designed to gently support people who have lost someone to suicide. We begin by getting to know one another, building trust, and ensuring everyone feels safe and respected. Then, together, we talk about the different ways grief can show up and share coping strategies for those tough emotions and thoughts – like anger, sadness, guilt, or the constant ‘why’.
There’s space to talk about how suicide affects our whānau and social circles, and we look at ways to rebuild and strengthen those relationships. The journey becomes lighter as we progress through the sessions, as there’s a focus on healing, finding comfort in rituals, sharing memories, and exploring how we want to remember our loved ones.
We also explore how grief evolves over time, share stories of hope and resilience, and discuss how we can look ahead to the future.
Waves is a free eight-week programme delivered by trained facilitators in a safe and nurturing environment. The experience is personalised and collaborative from the outset as we confirm the days and times we will meet after consulting with attendees.
